Our Cardiologists
Dr Inma Cerrada
DVM, PhD, MVetMed, Dipl. ACVIM (Cardiology), Dipl. ECVIM-CA (Cardiology)
Dr Inma Cerrada is a board-certified veterinary cardiologist with specialist credentials from both the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine – Companion Animals. She completed her cardiology residency at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), University of London, and also holds a PhD in Health Sciences and a Master of Veterinary Medicine.
Her career combines specialist referral cardiology, university teaching, clinical research and telemedicine. She works across academic and referral hospital environments and has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of acquired and congenital cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, arrhythmia assessment and interventional cardiology.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Cerrada is actively involved in postgraduate veterinary training and specialist education, including the training of future veterinary cardiologists.
She founded TeleCardio.Vet to make specialist cardiology expertise more accessible to veterinary practices and to provide referring veterinarians with clear, practical and clinically relevant support for the cases they manage.
Dr Lara Barron
DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVIM (Cardiology)
Dr Lara Barron is a board-certified veterinary cardiologist. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University and completed a rotating internship followed by a cardiology residency and a Master of Science, gaining specialist credentials from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
After moving to the United Kingdom she joined the Cardiology Service at the Royal Veterinary College, where she combined referral casework with the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinarians. She has extensive experience in echocardiography, the management of congestive heart failure and the investigation of congenital cardiovascular disease.
Dr Joonbum Seo
BVSc, MVetMed, Dipl. ACVIM (Cardiology)
Dr Joonbum Seo is a board-certified veterinary cardiologist. He graduated from Massey University, New Zealand, in 2013 and developed an early interest in cardiology while working in general and referral practice.
He completed a joint three-year cardiology residency and Master of Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College, and has since worked in referral cardiology across several countries. He is actively involved in clinical research and in the training of veterinarians in cardiac imaging.
Dr Joshua Hannabuss
BVetMed, MVetMed, PGDip(VCP), Dipl. ACVIM (Cardiology), MRCVS
Dr Hannabuss graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2016. He began his career in general practice before completing a rotating internship at the University of Bristol. Driven by a strong interest in cardiology, he pursued a specialist cardiology internship at a busy referral centre in Hampshire.
He later returned to the Royal Veterinary College to undertake a three-year residency in cardiology, alongside a master's degree in veterinary medicine. Following this, he achieved board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology) and is also recognised as a Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Dr Hannabuss has particular interests in advanced cardiac imaging — especially cardiac CT angiography and real-time 3D echocardiography — interventional cardiology and congenital heart disease. He has worked extensively with the cardiac surgery team at the Royal Veterinary College and currently serves as the clinical lead for transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (V Clamp) at a major UK referral hospital. He maintains close collaborations with experts in human cardiac imaging and interventional cardiology.
Dr Altin Cala
DVM, Dipl. ECVIM-CA (Cardiology), EBVS® European Specialist, RCVS Recognised Specialist
Altin graduated with distinction from the University of Tirana in 1997 before undertaking further postgraduate training in Italy. After obtaining accreditation of his veterinary degree from the University of Milan, he spent over 15 years working as a small animal veterinarian, developing a strong interest in cardiology. During this time, he remained actively involved in continuing education, teaching echocardiography across Europe and gaining additional experience in interventional cardiology through training at a high-volume human cardiac centre in Northern Italy.
In 2020, Altin moved to the United Kingdom to pursue specialist training in veterinary cardiology, completing both an internship and a residency before becoming a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Companion Animals – Cardiology) in 2025. He is an EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology and an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology. His main clinical interests include feline cardiology, congenital heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias, and interventional cardiology. He is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care while working closely with carers and referring veterinarians to achieve the best possible outcomes for every patient.
